PERFORMED FOR ALTOFEST MALTA as part of VALLETTA18 EUROPEAN CITY OF CULTURE PROGRAMME - 11-13/05/2018

Omertà was originally created in 2014 and commissioned by National Dance Company Wales to be part of the company repertoire in Autumn 2017. Altofest was commissioned by Valletta18 European City of Culture to bring their festival to Malta as part of their programme and Altofest commissioned themselves 22 artists which have been part of their past editions to be part of this special Malta edition.

Omertà was commissioned by Altofest Malta. Omertà was a worked that till then only existed on a stage. We have been allocated the "Bormla Regatta Club" to have our two weeks residency and let the impact of this space and its community rethink about the work, giving it a new life and place to exist. The primary similarity we found was the stereotype figure of a women that are present in both Omertà and the Italian Mafia culture and inside the Regatta Club in Malta. We decided to challenge that by stripping away all those ornaments around both subject matters and find the real essence and their purpose, to then realise the amount of similarities both had with one another and we created bridges for them to meet.

The result was a powerful and relevant stie-specific performance which truly belongs to the place, in terms of the thinking of the space and the involvement of the local community in it.

the ARTISTS and the BROMLA REGATTA CLUB COMMUNITY:

We both became creative with each other

We both were engage with it throughout the all process

We both learned unfamiliar topics about one another

We both introduced something new into each other's life

We both became and will remain friends
